An Analysis of the Parameters of the Active PZT Element of a Knock Sensor

  • Original language description

The authors present experimental research of PZT ceramics used in knock sensors. The aim of the paper is to investigate possible detection of microcracks in PZT ceramic by measuring the electrical parameters of a knock sensor related to the parameters ofpiezoelectric materials and to characterize the influence and changes exerted by these parameters on the properties of knock sensors. The material properties of active elements based on PZT ceramics are significantly affected by microcracks in PZT ceramics. In the experimental research, we measured the electrical parameters of an active toroidal PZT element to test selected procedures for the detection of microcracks. The discussed experiments can be interpreted as confirming the conclusion that temperature may significantly affect the accuracy of a knock sensor or piezoelectric transducers in general; moreover, in this context, it is also possible to conclude that investigating the resonant frequency and related problems can enable us
