    More and more modern technologies use metal lithium or compounds containing lithium. This lightest metal on Earth is used more frequently recent years and with development of electromobility this trend will not change. Almost half of all lithium produced are used in batteries. The main advantages of lithium ion batteries are low weight, high energy density, absence of memory effect and high cell voltage. Between disadvantages belongs higher price and lower flame safety. This paper will focus on the way of lithium from natural source to batteries, which are everywhere around us. The places and ways of mining of this “gray gold” will be briefly described. Continue with manufacturing of the raw material to chemistry usable for batteries.
