Electronically tunable pseudocapacitance for fractional-order (α=0.25) passive element

  • Original language description

A novel device based on component substitution is presented to realize a fractional-order (alpha = 0.25) passive element with electronically tunable pseudocapacitance. Tuning is achieved using a single bias voltage applied to optocouplers operating as variable resistance elements. Experimental measurements of a fabricated device demonstrate pseudocapacitance from 46 mu F/sec3/4 to 464 mu F/sec3/4 using a bias voltage from 3 V to 20 V. The constant phase behavior with +/- 2.5 degrees variation over three decades of frequency (up to 1 MHz) is demonstrated. The practical application example implements variable pseudocapacitance in electronically adjustable integrator.
