Characterization of Ni-P coating prepared on wrought AZ61 magnesium alloy via electroless deposition
Original language description
Low phosphorous Ni-P coating was prepared on wrought AZ61 magnesium alloy via electroless deposition for 1 hour after adequate substrate surface pre-treatment. Prepared coating with the thickness of 10 µm was characterized by uniform distribution of Ni (95.4 wt. %) and P (4.6 wt. %) in the cross-section. Microcavities present in the coating resulted in the quite low corrosion resistance of the coated magnesium alloy in 0.1 M NaCl solution. On the other hand, the coating exhibits a high degree of adhesion, as evidenced by scratch test, and significantly improves AZ61 magnesium alloy microhardness (from 79 ± 6 HV 0.025 to 700 ± 40HV 0.025).
