Experimental evaluation of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-4-hydroxybutyrate) applicability in biomedicine

  • Original language description

Bioplastics are recently presumed as a convenient solution of the world pollution. In the foreground, group of bacterial biopolymers – polyhyd-roxyalkanoates, tends to satisfy several demands placed on these materials. Amongst PHAs, copolymer of 3-hydroxybutyrate and 4-hydroxy-butyrate – P(3HB-co-4HB) presents promising properties for wide range of applications. This potential bioplastic is naturally accumulated by a thermophilic strain Aneurinibacillus sp. H1. Since this producent is a Gram-positive bacterium, it does not produce endotoxins and is willing to generate adjustable monomer-ratio polymer according to cultivation conditions. In this study, we present crucial biophysical properties of copolymer P(3HB-co-4HB) manufactured by employing Aneurinibacillus sp. H1, in order to evaluate its applicability in biomedicine. Two different-ratio copolymers were produced, as a referential material, homopolymer pol-y-3-hydroxybutyrate was manufactured by cultivating mesophilic bacterium Cupriavidius necator
