The industrial companies of the Czech Republic aim for reduction of negative environmental impacts by introducing the environment-friendly technologies focused on minimization of generated waste volumes. Voluntary initiatives and activities focused on environmental protection, particularly the environmental management systems (EMS), gain ground very clearly. In 2002 the research of the environmental management system in the South Moravian region companies was carried out, the research is the integral paart of the institutional research project "Possible Trends of Development in Companies of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering with Special reference to the South Moravian Region" (Registration No. J 22/98 265 100017), Prof.Ing.Petr Němeček,DrSc. as themain researcher, where the Environmental Management Group was created.
