Determination of Optimum Enzymatic Digestion of Tanned Solid Wastes

  • Original language description

The process based on enzymatic hydrolysis, produces a commercial useful protein solution . Under the reaction conditions conditions used, the protein-chrome complex is converted into insoluble chromic hydroxide easily removed from the reaction reaction mixture by filtration. In this paper, a theoretical treatment of the process is presented and the total process costs calculated. A significant finding is the existence of a total cost minimum when a critical range of hydrolysis has been reactedThis is the result of a balance between reaction costs and costs related to evaporating the reaction mixture to the final concentration.
