Synthesis of CdTe/ZnZ Core/Shell Quantum Dots and Their In Vitro Toxicity Assessment
Original language description
Water soluble CdTe core a CdTe/ZnS core/shell QDs stabilized with different ligands (3-mercaptoacetic acid, thioglycolic acid, glutathione and mercaptosuccinic acid) were prepared by a simple method using Na2TeO3 and CdCl2. For comparison, ZnSe and ZnSe/ZnS QDs were also prepared. QDs cytotoxicity on Human Embryonic Kidney cells (HEK 293) was performed using MTT (3-(4,5-Dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide) viability assay. Single core CdTe QDs were found to have severe toxic effects on cells due to the absence of a zinc sulfide shell, which currently decreases the toxicity of QDs.
