Analysis of the Causes of Boiler Explosion
Original language description
The paper summarizes the results of an extensive metallographic and microfractographic analysis of the relevant parts of a boiler, the aim of which was to establish the causes of the explosion of the boiler (or to contribute to the explanation of the causes). Our analysis was part of a complex assessment of the causes of boiler destruction, which also included, among other things, an assessment of the boiler design, an analysis of operational records inclusive of alarm events, a strain-stress analysis of the boiler, an analysis of potential chemical cause of destruction, etc. in the paper, we naturally concentrate on assessing the microstructure of all the relevant parts of the boiler, in particular the super-heater chamber, the membrane wall and floor, feed-water tubes as well as the (micro)morphology of fractures and cracks. Light and electron microscopies were used to verify the microstructure of samples of non-affected sites on the one hand, and metallographic specimens containing an inclusive of
