Quality Control of Graphene Oxide Production with Large Area Sheets
Original language description
There are many processes and modifications for the production of graphene oxide (GO) that are based on the original synthesis by W.S.Hummers and R.E.Offeman (1957), B.C.Brodie (1859), L.Staudenmaier (1898). Not all modifications produce high-quality material. The GO production process we use is a modified production according to Mr. W.S.Hummers and Mr. R.E.Offeman. Because the synthesis itself consists of several individual steps each step must be controlled in order to achieve the best result. Quality control at every step helps us to reduce the content of impurities and increase the yield of the final product. Impurities can be toxic or electrochemically active and thus have a direct effect on the application of the produced material. The ideal result is that the final product will contain only GO with individual large sheets and will not contain any other impurities and byproducts from synthesis such as potassium, chlorine, sulfur, manganese salts, or nonexfoliated graphite oxide. At the same time,
