    The disclosure presents a method for automatic tuning of regulatory controllers. Poorly tuned controllers result in wasted energy, excessive wear of control system components and other problems. Manual tuning is tedious, error prone and time consuming. Automated way is desirable. The method covers an iterative procedure for updating controller policy and association of updated policy with performance criterion. The policy is optimized to offer highest likelihood of positive improvement of controller performance.
