Prospective Pear Cultivars Bred in the Czech Republic
Original language description
At present, Bartletts/Williams, Conference, Abbé Fetel, Doyenné du Comice and Beurré Bosc are the principal commercial cultivars planted in Europe. There is stagnation in the cultivar range and mainly a lack of winter cultivars. This paper describes prospective pear cultivars bred in the Czech Republic in the last 15 years. These cultivars should play an important role in the recovery of the tradition of pear growing. Based on the evaluations made, the following cultivars were chosen for intensive production systems: Summer cultivars Isolda, and Radana, autumn cultivars Elektra and Manon, early winter cultivars Vonka, David and Dicolor, winter cultivars Bohemica, Astra, Dita, Erika and Omega.
