New Pear Cultivars from the Czech Republic
Original language description
The presented paper describes promising pear cultivars bred in the Czech Republic. The current market assortment of pear mainly consists of cultivars Alexander Lucas, Beurre Bosc, and Conference. There is stagnation in the cultivar composition. Growers lack winter cultivars. Since 2000, 21 new pear cultivars were listed in the central register of cultivars. These cultivars originate in breeding programs, which have started in the 1960s. These cultivars should play an important role in the recovery of pear growing in the Czech Republic. According to a supply-demand analysis, there is a space in domestic and EU market for higher pear production. Based on the evaluation of important economic characters, the following cultivars were recommended for intensive pear orchard systems. Autumn cultivars: Karina (Max Red Bartlett x Conference), Manon (open pollinated Beurre Bose), and Morava (Beurre Bosc x President Drouard). Early winter cultivars: Vonka (open pollinated Doyenne du Comice). Winte
