Comparison of gooseberry cultivars in relation to ther suitability for table fruit production
Original language description
The aim of this work was to evaluate an average fruit weight, yield parameters and the level of fruit infection caused by pathogen Podosphaera mors-uvae (Schwein.) U. Braun & S. Takamatsu in 21 gooseberry cultivars. Standard fungicidal protection was applied in experimental planting with two growing systems: two-stem spindle with support and shaped bush. Each cultivar was represented with three plants in both systems. Planting was covered with foil mounted on the construction to obtain better fruit quality. Controlled irrigation system and ground foil cover were also used. The highest average weight of fruits was found in the cultivar 'Remarka' in two-stem spindle system and in the cultivar 'Pax' in shaped bush system. Cumulative yield of each cultivar was observed in the second and the third year of cultivation. Average yield year-1 was calculated and expressed in g plant-1 of each cultivar. The highest yield was found in the cultivar 'Hinnonmaki Rot' in the shaped bush system. The highest value of this trait in two-stem spindle system was detected in the cultivar 'Karmen'. The absence of powdery mildew occurrence was found only in 4 cultivars ('Hinnonmaki Rot', 'Karát', 'Krasnoslavjanskij', and 'Rodnik') in both systems and in other 4 cultivars in two-stem spindle system ('Černý neguš', 'Mucurines', 'Reflamba', and 'Remarka').
