Original language description

Fruit size and weight can increase the price of cherries and marketability of production. Now¬adays growers are looking for big-sized cherry cultivars with an optimum size of 30 mm and higher in the diameter of the fruit. The breeding programme focused on establishing new sweet cherry cultivars started in Holovousy (Czech Republic) during the early seventies of the last century. More than 25 sweet cherry cultivars have been released up to the present day. The focus is on the size and firmness of fruits, their flavour and reliable cropping potential.
