Universal simulation model for unsignalized intersection capacity analysis

  • Original language description

The article presents a universal simulation model of the general unsignalized intersection consisting of three (T intersection) or four arms. Each arm can consist of up to 5 lanes. The model is based on gap acceptance theory which defines rules for entering the intersection. The simulation model is created using software Witness. The main advantage of the presented approach is that defining all the necessary input pieces of data is realized through a web application. That means users of the application need not be specialists in Witness to be able to use the simulation model for capacity analyses. In the paper some examples of unsignalized intersections are presented; the examples are represented by the intersections for which results got by simulation approach and by Czech technical regulations TP 188 are compared. Moreover, the theoretical results are also compared with some results obtained by a traffic survey at a selected unsignalized intersection in Ostrava.
