The article presents an introduction to a vacuum hardening furnace with the focus on the hardening process. The heat up is realized under vacuum and the later cooling under an inertial gas environment under overpressure. A numerical simulation of the cooling process was tested to try a prediction of the final hardness and compared with experimental data.
