The paper aims to monitor the situation of the universal pension scheme in relation to the labour market, demographic changes, quality of life and the existence of special pension schemes in relation with health-social situation of employees. It focuseson the relations of the universal pension scheme and potential special pension schemes, aspects of their evaluation and social-political significance. As an example, we can present the current situation of Czech mining industry. It also demonstrates thepossible role of QALY and DALY indicators in relation to the research problem. It is based on the principle that the universal pension scheme is the basic pension scheme available for every employee/citizen and the special pension schemes are perceived as potential upgrade.
