Physical Modelling of Hot and Cold Rolling in Universal Rolling Mill

  • Original language description

Techniques in physical modelling of rolling processes may be classified with respect to the type of equipment and size of specimens used. Small specimens are processed in compression and torsion plastometers or in simulators that combine tension and compression loading. Trials in rolling plants represent another, though costly, option. In between these, there are methods based on laboratory rolling mills. Those allow rolling conditions of large-scale mills to be explored using a small volume of materialsubjected to equivalent stress states. The new universal mill on the premises of COMTES FHT offers hot and cold rolling capability. It can be reconfigured into a two-high mill used for hot rolling. In this configuration, it offers a broad range of options for thermomechanical rolling thanks to additional equipment: a furnace with a roller conveyor for reheating the rolled stock in the process, a water spray cooling tunnel, an induction reheating compartment and a quenching tank.
