Terrorism and Counterterrorism
Original language description
Following the tragic events of September 11, 2001 (9/11), terrorism has become one of the major security threats. The fight against terrorism has, correspondingly, become a key priority for national governments and national security agencies, as well as an important part of the agenda of various international organizations. As a consequence, there has also been a proliferation of the academic literature analyzing various aspects of terrorism and counterterrorism. Although research on these interrelated topics did not start de novo after 9/11, a lot of the (counter-)terrorism literature has only been written since 2001. In this chapter, only the key debates and findings that go beyond the academic ivory towers are presented.
