Bonner sphere spectrometer for characterization of BNCT beam
Original language description
The characterization of the epithermal beam is performed by Bonner spheres spectrometer that consists of the set of polyethylene spheres of 2?, 3?, 4? and 5? in the diameter and a cylindrical 4 x 8 mm Li(Eu) scintillation detector of thermal neutrons. The advantage of the given spectrometer consists in the fact that 90% response intervals of the spheres continuously cover the epithermal part of the neutron energy range. The method has been applied to characterize the epithermal neutron beams at severalresearch centers in USA, Finland, The Netherlands and Czech Republic. The comparison of the MIT FCB, HFR HB11, VTT FiR, and LVR-15 beam parameters is presented.
