Simulation System of Decay Heat Generation : TN02000012-V1
Original language description
The goal of the output is a system for simulating the generation of residual heat in the melt during experiments simulating the interaction of the melt formed during a nuclear power plant accident (corium) with concrete. After the reactor core melts and the reactor vessel fails, the corium comes into contact with the concrete at the bottom of the reactor shaft. Heat is generated in the melt throughout the interaction by the decay of radioactive isotopes. This is simulated by our experiments, which are carried out using induction heating in a cold crucible. After the melt begins to interact with the concrete, the induction heating power is reduced to simulate the residual heat generated in the corium by the decay of radioactive isotopes during an accident. This system can thus be used to study phenomena key to understanding severe nuclear accidents.
