Correlation between total bacterial and somatic cell counts in bulk tank ewes´milk
Original language description
There were evaluated total count of microorganisms (TCM) and somatic cells count (SCC) in raw sheep milk on the base of milk samples from bulk tank (n = 1 256). Statistical parameters: median (m), arithmetic mean (¯x), geometric mean (gx), mean of logarithmic values (log10), standard deviation (sd), Spearman correlation coefficient (SP) and Pearson correlation coefficient (PE) were used. Geometric mean and median for TCM and SCC were 205 x 103 CFU·ml-1 and 967 x 103 in 1 ml and 154 x 103 CFU·ml-1 and 987 x 103 in 1 ml, respectively. The tightness of relationship TCM and SCC is similar according to correlation transformed values (log10, PE) and to SP, and varies through lactation. This variation range is from 0.06 to 0.26 (P < 0.001) for PE and from 0.05 to 0.33 (P < 0.001) for SP. The explanation of variability in SCC values by variations in TCM values (PE) could be up to 20.3% as maximum. The development curves of relations between TCM and SCC in bulk sheep milk along months of lactation (PE (log), y = 0.0031x4 – 0.1037x3 + 1.2181x2 – 6.0068x + 10.640; SP, y = 0.0054x4 – 0.1623x3 + 1.7685x2 – 8.2647x + 14.065) may be associated with the dynamics of lactation and secretion disorders.
