    Rumen fermentation and methane production

  • Original language description

    This scientific report deals with rumen fermentation and methane production. Methane is an end-product of the fermentation of carbohydrates in the rumen. The generation of this can be reduced by encouraging a shift in fermentation toward propionate production, but it cannot be entirely eliminated without adverse effects on ruminant production. Increasing animal productivity seems to be the most effective means of reducing methane release in the short term.
