Wound dressing composed of nanofibrous polymer mats with solid lipid particles loaded with antibiotics
Original language description
A functional sample of a polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofibrous membrane incorporating gentamicin encapsulated in solid lipid particles (SLPs). The PCL nanofibers were electrospun using the modular GradeTechLine production system, following an optimized protocol ensuring proven biocompatibility. The gentamicin-loaded SLPs were integrated into the membrane structure via a pressure-driven filtration process. The resulting wound dressings exhibited no cytotoxic effects on fibroblasts and demonstrated significant antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli.

Technical parameters
The resulting wound dressings exhibited no cytotoxic effects on fibroblasts and demonstrated significant antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. The tests did not prove definitely the activity against Enterococcus faecalis that is known to be resistant against the active substance. The disk test was not decisive for Staphylococcus aureus, however the antimicrobial activity was indicated.
