Goal of this work was to provide the resistance analysis of four main parts of electrodialysis stack ? ion exchange membranes, diluate compartments, concentrate compartments and diffusion layer in diluate ? in a wide range of feed solution?s concentration. The other parts of stack (electrode compartments, possible fouling layers etc.) were not considered, as their electric resistance is negligible compared to resistances mentioned above. Using the analysis results, the most effective way of electrodialysis process intensification may be chosen. Another goal was to confirm some of assumptions based on the analysis by the series of experiments on laboratory-scale electrodialysis module. When highly concentrated solutions are processed, the ion exchange membrane plays the main role in total stack resistance, so with the use of low-resistance membrane types the most expressive results can be observed.
