Using electrodialysis in the production process of Lactose and processing mother liquor from the crystalization
Original language description
Electromembrane processes are successful in removing nitrates from wastewater and fluorides from groundwater and for separation of ionic and non-ionic molecules, with large application in food, pharmacy and electroplating industry. In the food industry is widely used in the ED process and the removal of salts in whey and the mother liquor. Whey is obtained as a co-product from the milk industry, consisting mainly of water, proteins, vitamins, minerals and lactose. Whey can be used for producing galactooligosaccharides (GOS), which are naturally occurring probiotics, and the concentrate obtained from NF, depending on whey initial chemical conditions, can be used for this purpose. The whey can also be used for other technological applications. Importantapplications of whey are: utilization for feeding farm animals; use of demineralized WPC in all kinds of human foods, even dietetic or baby-foods, as a protein supplier; fabrication of organic acids, vitamins and volatile flavoring compou
