  • Original language description

    Electrodialysis (ED) was tested to recover water from model waste water. Such model waste stream originated from stainless steel pickling rinsing loop. The possible pretreatment train consisted of soda lime precipitation followed with denitrification. The majority of anionic chemical species will be hydrogen carbonates instead of nitrates and fluorides. The dominant cationic species will be sodium with trace amounts of potassium, magnesium and calcium. The sodium bicarbonate was successfully removed byelectrodialysis, using heterogeneous Ralex? anion-exchange AM-PES and cation-exchange CM-PES membranes. The tested solution was sodium bicarbonate with feed concentration 15 g/L. The initial feed conductivity was 12.3 mS/cm and pH 8.1. A 98 % desalination degree was achieved on a laboratory electrodialysis unit P EDR-Z produced by MemBrain s.r.o. The total of four batches of desalted water was produced reaching conductivity 300 uS/cm and pH near neutral, confirming the stability and perf
