Hollow fiber membranes for gas separation
Original language description
The present study concerns lab-scale gas separation hollow fiber modules, in a view to transfer results into industry-scale membrane systems. Experiments were designed with the aim to optimize the synthesis parameters for the production of asymmetric polyetherimide hollow fibers. They were produced with 29% of Ultem? polyetherimide 1000 polymer, using the wet-dry process. The tested parameters during the processing were the polymer solution flow, the bore liquid flow, the air-gap distance and the take-up speed. The produced membranes were characterized by CO2/CH4 gas mixtures permeation experiments, Optical Microscopy (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The impact of synthesis parameters and fiber morphology was investigated, as well as the impact on fiber efficiency. Results show the critical impact of bore flow and take-up speed on fibers structure: fiber tubular aspects were provided without deformation when high bore flow was used and small fiber diameters were obtained wh
