The article deals with research and self-realization of modern instruments and methods for analysis of metal-lic materials at the Faculty of Production Technology and Management in Usti nad Labem in the Department of Materials Engineering and technology.The particular case of the practice, which is close spring when worn close to cut, we made measurements of roughness, profile and surface hardness. We performed a macroscopic and microscopic observation of material of the spring on the confocal laser microscope and measured the microhard-ness of the material inside the spring. Using these measurements and analysis we have conducted research on the case in practice. By performing spectral analysis we applied in addition to all measurements and observations, to further determine the chemical composition of the deviations from the standard spring, which can affect prema-ture wear of machine parts.
