Metallurgy of the weld joints on the weldox 1100 steel realised with the laser hybrid technology
Original language description
The main topic of this paper is the weld-joint properties assessment. The weld joint was performed with a Laser-hybrid welding technology, and as a base metal the high strength (fine grained) WELDOX 1100 steel was used. This type of material is beneficial for steel structures with a local high dynamic load, as in mobile crane industry. The tests were performed for an industrial company. Today, the companies use for the production of welded parts the combination of a GMAW (Gas metal arc welding) and a SAW (Submerged arc welding) welding technologies. Because of a requested increase in production of steel structures by customer, the current welding technology needs to be replaced. The company considers replacing of a current technology by the Laser-hybrid technology. Before the implementation of the Laser-hybrid technology in mass production, the quality of the welding process must be verified and confirmed. The confirmation is performed by a welding procedure quality report (WPQR) according to the standard DIN EN ISO 15614-14. This paper contains material properties description, Laser-hybrid technology description, results of the standard requested tests and the microstructure evaluation for the tested specimens.
