New trends in teaching Functional diagnostics to the students of Physical Education and Sport at pedagogical faculties in the Czech republic

  • Original language description

The methods of functional diagnostics are necessary to evaluate health and sport performance in the school and sport environment. At present, teacher training students are generally taught only the basic methods and approaches of this evaluation. Usually, the courses involved are Physiology of Physical Load and Sport and Sports Medicine. The present time is characterized by the development of various technologies but also increase in society's health issues. Their diagnostics and possible solutions can be utilized in the teaching and coaching activities of graduates of teacher training programmes aimed at physical education and sport. Currently, the students are becoming acquainted with some basic methods of evaluating the function of the body and the health aspects affecting this function /usually in the courses Human Physiology and Health Physical Education/. A coach should have an active knowledge of the procedures of the body's functional evaluation, with respect to not only sport performance but also the health of the individual monitored. Therefore, our paper presents new possibilities of equipment, such as ergometers for inline skating and cross-country skiing, rowing, etc., as well as new testing methods and procedures such as the Wingate anaerobic and Astrand test. Furthermore, it is necessary for university students to become acquainted with all the health aspects impacting the function of the body, such as eating habits, the influence of climatic factors on the evaluated performance and some other factors having an effect on an individual's health. Students will use the knowledge gained in their further teaching and coaching cavities, enabling them not only to improve the quality of the training process and health-oriented competence of the athlete/pupil/student involved, but generally improve the health-based quality of their lives.
