COVID-19 responses in the Czech Republic
Original language description
Public transport lost a substantial portion of ridership during the COVID-19 pandemic because of implemented counter-pandemic measures to limit the movement of people and the fear of contagion. Based on quantitative and qualitative data from several datasets collected during the pandemic, this article describes the evolution and reaction of the transport sector to the COVID-19 crisis in the Czech Republic and the economic consequences of the implemented measures. It further formulates lessons learnt from this unprecedented situation. While the Czech transport institutions had not prepared for such an event, it brought rich experience and new crisis management lessons. The findings summarized in this article can improve the preparedness of the public transport sector in the case of a future crisis.
