Thinking Through Drawing
Original language description
The workshop was conceived as a comprehensive pedagogical-research format consisting of both a theore-tical (lecture-based) and a practical component. It builds upon a long-term curatorial-pedagogical research project developed within a methodological framework of artistic research by Associate Professor Lenka Sýkorová, focusing on post-conceptual extensions of drawing. The theoretical part (Thinking through Drawing) presented drawing as a research medium and a tool of thinking that integrates reflection, embodiment, and processuality. Drawing was interpreted as an open visual structure that exceeds traditional media boundaries and operates as an intermedial field between image, object, installation, and performative gesture. Emphasis was placed on its capacity to respond to contemporary social and cultural contexts through temporality, gesture, and attentive perception. The practical part (Thinking Through Drawing: Nonverbal Communication and Material and Body Ex-pression) further developed the theoretical framework through experimental exercises. The workshop ap-proached drawing as a mode of nonverbal communication and embodied thinking - a process connecting material, body, and space. Participants worked with elementary means and explored drawing as a time-based, performative, and sensory act. The focus was on processuality, interdisciplinary overlaps, and the articulation of personal and collective experience through visual signs. The output confirms the potential of artistic research as a methodological field integrating pedagogical practice, curatorial conception, and individual artistic inquiry, while contributing to the internationalisation of research activities.
