Verification of the acoustic parametres of Close-ProXimity method

  • Original language description

The majority of noise disturbing inhabitants in residential areas arises at the point of contact between tires and the road at speeds over 50 km/h (which is also a common speed limit in cities). To measure this component of noise, European and non-European road directorates and companies use the close-proximity (CPX) method according to ISO/DIS 11819-2 as it is demands minimal time and personnel. This method was selected to measure tire–road noise within the Czech Republic. To implement the CPX method, a special uncovered measuring trailer was constructed to be drawn behind a vehicle. It differs from other commonly used CPX vehicles that are covered by noise-absorbing materials. The objective of the study was to verify the reliability of the acoustic parameters obtained from our measuring equipment. It was determined that the difference between noise propagated by tire–road interaction and background noise was at least 18 dB(A), which conforms to the limit given in ISO/DIS 11819-2 standard. This indicates that the open measuring trailer meets the requirements for measuring surface noise without requiring additional design modifications.
