Structure and Properties of Duplex Coated PM High Speed Steel
Original language description
The M2 grade P/M made high speed steel was duplex coated. Structural evaluation revealed that the nitrided layers consisted of fine nitrides and carbonitrides embedded in metallic matrix. The nitrides were predominantly of the Fe4N - nature, however, theFe3N phase was also observed in several cases. The occurrence of nitrides in near surface regions induced a considerable surface strengthening. The PVD - coating led to the formation of overlay having of 2.4 ?m in thickness and 2385 HV 0.005 in microhardness. Wear tests established that the PVD - coating led to considerable wear resistance improvement, in particular when the specimens were tested under heavy loading.
