Application of MELCOR Code to THAI Mixing and Deflagration Tests
Original language description
The MELCOR code is very extensively used in NRI for many purposes starting with code validation against experimental results and ending with plant application for both nuclear power plants operated in the Czech Republic. During the period of the last year the code was validated against OECD THAI experiments of series HM and HD, against Quench-11 test, and plant applications for VVER-440 and VVER-1000, which resulted in several observations concerning the code limitation, recommendations how to use the code, suggestion for further code developments, or code improvements. The NRI Řež performed a testing of the latest release of the MELCOR code (version 2.1) against the OECD THAI HM2 test with the purpose to asses the impact of the absence of film tracking and atmosphere spraying by condensate, which were not applied in the MELCOR 1.8.6 simulations due to code limits.
