Electrochemistry of uranium and europium in room-temperature molten salts
Original language description
Room temperature molten salts or ionic liquids (RTILs) are considered to be suitable alternatives to presently used systems in the field of spent fuel reprocessing and decontamination/recycling of materials contaminated with radionuclides because of their characteristic properties such as negligible vapor pressure, non-flammability, Thermal, mechanic and radiation stability, ionic conductivity and wide electrochemical window, tunability etc. Electrochemical separations from RTILs are highlighted processes in the field. Within the presented paper, electrochemical characteristics of uranium and europium, examples of common contaminants and fissile material and fission products respectively. The possibility of these two species´ deposition on the electrode and its separation is shown and discussed in detail.
