    Determination of particle shape and size distribution of model types of nanomaterials

  • Original language description

    Except detailed chemical structure, such nanoparticle properties as shape and size distribution are fundamental to the given application. To measure these parameters various methods are used, e.g. transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, acoustic spectrometry and methods based on the light scattering. All above-mentioned methods were used in this work to characterize particles of two selected model types of nanomaterials ? colloidal silica and sodium montmorillonite. Silica representsa material with spherical particles. Tabular shapes are typical for montmorillonite materials. Merits and limitations of the individual methods used to evaluation of nanoparticles of various types are discussed in the work. Type of stabilization of silica influenced behavior of colloidal solutions during dilution. All used methodsgive similar results. Bigger particles were observed by means of AFM and TEM.
