Layered calciumphenylphosphonate as a filler for polymer nanocomposites
Original language description
Intensive research in the field of nanotechnology especially development in nanoparticles synthesis and characterization brings new possibilities to combine nanoparticles with traditional materials and enhance material properties in this way. This work is focused on layered calcium phenylphosphonate (CaPhP), especially on its synthesis, exfoliation into nanosheets and application as a filler in the nanocomposites. The synthetized compounds were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, atom force microscopy (AFM) and powder X-ray diffraction. Delaminated nanosheets were obtained from them by mechanical exfoliation in ultrasound or by using shear forces. These delaminated particles were measured with dynamic light scattering and AFM. Compatibility with CHS-epoxy 520 polymer matrix was tested, so quality of the particle dispersion and mechanical properties of the composites were also evaluated. Our results suggest that this type of material is suitable for the preparation of epoxy nanocomposites.
