Method of weft braking during the weft picking through a shed on a pneumatic weaving machine in which the weft being picked through a direct pick channel of a reed is exposed to a braking force acting opposite the direction of the weft motion. By brakingforce acts upon at least a part of the length of the weft being picked weft directly in the direct pick channel and thus achieves both a reduction of the absolute value of the weft deformations and a uniform distribution of the weft deformations along the length of the weft
