"The article deals with elastic deformations in the contact area of a general kinematic pair. In the case of a basic cam mechanism, the general kinematic pair is formed by the contact between the working surfaces of the cam and the cam follower. In technical practice, this contact is most often generated by the contact between a cylindrical roller and a cam or between a crowned roller and a cam."
