Method and device for separating a rod-like or tubular object made of a brittle material
Original language description
The invention relates to a method of dividing a rodlike or tubular object made from a brittle material, particularly glass, in which at least one circumferential scratch is first formed on the surface of the object and then a force impulse or impulses are applied to the object being clamped. In order to divide the portion of the object being divided, the surface area of the peripheral scratch and/or its surroundings are brought into contact with the main fluid stream ring which is put in a defined variable velocity motion, wherein, with the change of the main fluid stream velocity, the liquid causes a local drop in the pressure of the fluid to form vacuum-filled tubes, and, after inducing a sudden increase in the pressure of the fluid, these tubes implode, which is accompanied by a shock pressure wave in the fluid ring that causes division of a portion of the tube at the point weakened by the circumferential scratch. The invention also relates to a device for performing this method.
