The influence of microstructures on rolling resistance

  • Original language description

The subject of the contribution is an overview of the experimental work to determine the influence of microstructures on the rolling resistance. The tribological properties in the rolling contact of two bodies could be improved by a functional formation of the microstructure on the contact surface of one of the bodies that co-form the rolling or general kinematic pair. The microstructure is created by a set of micro-holes that are made by using laser technology, see Fig. 1. The accumulation of the larger volume of a lubricant between the contact surfaces of the bodies is the purpose of the intentionally creation of microstructures on the contact surfaces and thus achieving of a passive resistances reduction during their relative movement and better heat dissipation caused by their contact. On the other side, the creation of the microstructures is to reduce the contact area of mutually rolling bodies with a possible impact on the reduction of rolling resistance.
