    Transitional and turbulent flow driven by rotating and traveling magnetic field in a cylindrical container

  • Original language description

    A magnetically driven flow has been investigated by means of direct numerical simulation (DNS). The computation has been carried out via a code based on the finite element method stabilized by pressure-stabilized Petrov-Galerkin (PSPG) approach. The codevalidation has been performed by the computation of the magnetically driven flow and the stability analysis of this flow field revealed that the critical Taylor number, critical mode and its frequency correspond well with results from Grants and Gerbeth.Furthermore this flow is already 3D and non-stationary slightly above critical Taylor number. The frequency and wave number spectra have been determined at various positions as well. The Taylor-Görtler type vortices, which play important roles in such trnsient flows, are identified and visualized by means of different techniques. The shape and dynamical behaviour depend on the particular Taylor number.

    Magneticky generované proudění bylo zkoumáno pomocí dns simulace. Výpočty byly realizovány pomocí výpočetního kódu založeného na mětodě konečných prvků s tlakovou stabilizací. Validace kódu byla uskutečněna výpočtem magneticky buzeného proudění a analýzanestabilit odhalila kritické Taylorovo číslo, kritický mód a odpovídající frekvenci.
