Influence of the Spatial Orientation of the Standing?Wave Thermoacoustic Prime Mover
Original language description
Motivation of this study was to show the effect of spatial orientation of the standing?wave thermoacoustic prime mover working with the atmospheric air on its performance in steady?state and on onset characteristics. Two?microphone method was used for measuring of an acoustic power for its simplicity and temperature distribution was monitored by several thermocouples. The experimental results indicate positive effect of natural convection on steady?state acoustic power and magnitude of onset temperaturegradient for positions with hot heat exchanger under heat sink relative to gravity and also negative affection for position with the bottom up. This finding is an important step to design the thermoacoustic engines driven by waste heat energy or miniature MEMS based thermoacoustic refrigerator for thermal management of micro electronic devices.
