Experimental Investigation of Multiaxial Stress of the Sewing Seam and Creating its numerical model

  • Original language description

The presented work is based on experiments determining the strength of sewing seams in car seat covers. In order to understand the behavior of the seam on the car seat, it is necessary to create the conditions that will be close to real stresses. This experiment has been carried out on a designed device that simulates multiaxial stress. In this study, four different sizes of spun polyester and polyamide threads are used to sew the textile material (used for car seat cover) by a lockstitch sewing machine. By using the device made for measuring the multiaxial strain the average load of seam strength were obtained. After the experiments a theoretical calculation of the stress by finite element method (FEM) is follow. The carried models were drawn in Creo parametric and FEM analysis has been conducted in the software ANSYS. Based on the measurements of the individual components (strength of the material, threads in the loop…) and entire assembly has been compiled to make a numerical model.
