Effect of heat-treatment on the structure of Fe -28Al -15Si-X alloys

  • Original language description

Iron–aluminium intermetallic alloys exhibit high potential for high-temperature structural applications due to their low density and excellent oxidation resistance. This study focuses on Fe–28Al–15Si alloys microalloyed with Zr and Mo and evaluates the effect of different heat treatments on microstructure and hardness. The alloys were prepared by vacuum induction melting and analyzed in the as-cast state and after annealing at 800–1200 °C. While Zr addition showed limited response to heat treatment, Mo addition led to significant precipitation strengthening. Optimized heat treatment resulted in a fine dispersion of secondary phases and hardness values approaching 600 HV, comparable to hardened steels.
