Thermal dimensioning of a nuclear waste repository
Original language description
The model represents an infinite periodic structure of tunnels and boreholes. The single segment of periodic model consists of one quarter of borehole and neighbouring crystalline rock. Because of temperature limits specified for the repository, the heatgenerated by the spent nuclear fuel will impact on canister spacing with consequences for the size of the repository. There are also discussed some model uncertainities in this study, caused by the spatial variability in heat transport properties of thebentonite barrier and surrounding granitic massif.
