A Critical Evaluation of Risk Assessment Methodology for Natural Gas Pipeline

  • Original language description

A new methodology for the quantitative risk assessment in the vicinity of high pressure natural gas pipelines has been recently adopted in the Czech Republic. A major objective of this methodology is to determine the minimum distances between gas pipelines and buildings and it can be used during a process of planning the route of new pipelines as well as for a risk assessment in individual cases when it is not possible to keep the minimum distance. Since the outputs of proposed methodology are used fora land planning, it is appropriate to examine the quality of methodology. This is done by identification and evaluation of uncertainties in individual steps of risk assessment. The purpose of the evaluation is to get the information on uncertainties of risk assessment and limits of usability of the methodology.
